Homemade marinara/ Pizza Sauce
This Marinara sauce is super easy to make and comes together in just a couple of minutes. It is perfect for pizzas and pasta bakes. I also use it in my stove top spaghetti, though I do thicken it with some tomato paste for that recipe (to be posted later on). For now, come with me and I’ll show you how my family makes Marinara sauce!
First thing—as always—we’ll need our ingredients.
Ingredients:
1 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
4 tsp. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. table salt
2 tsp. oregano
2 tsp. basil
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. onion powder
Tools:
A large mixing bowl
A whisk
Measuring spoons
Can opener
Start by pouring the entire can of crushed tomatoes into the mixing bowl. (DO NOT use tomato sauce!)
Next, add the sugar, salt, oregano, basil, garlic powder, and onion powder in order and in their own separate piles as pictured. Seriously, if you get called away while making this, it’s nice to be able to just look at it and see where you left off with your spices. (Can you tell I have kids?)
Now simply whisk thoroughly until everything is well combined—being careful not to stir too enthusiastically unless you want your kitchen to look like a murder scene.
And there you have it! Either use immediately or seal in an air tight fashion and refrigerate for no more than one week tops!
